The Sugar Camp area was originally a Native American, maple syrup harvesting mecca.
Later, after European settlement and logging, there was a narrow gauge railway where people from as far as Chicago could come all the way up through the area by train.
In 1924, Valerie Burrell began Burr Valley resort as a series of adjacent cabins on the pristine lake with a main lodge where guests coand drink, yet retire to private cabins. That formula remained at the bar/restaurant most recently owned by Fritz and Betty followed by the Doug Kutz family until the late 90s. At that time, all of the buildings were individually sold to provide the oasis of cozy cabins that it is today. Today, we cherish all of the safety within the ownership community as well as the abilitity to retrrea to private, individually-owned, warm little homes.
